Wolston Creek Wildlife Walk

Join the Wolston Creek Bushland Group in a walk through Wolston Creek Bushland Reserve, and learn more about the group’s efforts to restore this special part of the Centenary suburbs.

There is a large population of eastern grey kangaroos in the area, as well as hares, wallabies, snakes and many types of birds.

The walk is eight kilometres long, over mostly easy terrain. However, some sections cover steep declines, making this walk unsuitable for wheelchairs or standard strollers.

There will be a sausage sizzle and coffee break at the half-way point for the cost of a gold coin donation.

This walk is presented by Centenary and District Environment Action and Wolston Creek Bushland Group.

Walk with Kangaroos at Pooh Corner

Come and see magnificent Eastern Grey kangaroos in a natural environment so close to urban Brisbane. You may be lucky and spot a koala!

The 138 hectare so-called ‘Pooh Corner’ site in Wacol is an area of substantially intact, remnant vegetation which is classified as an endangered regional ecosystem. It is also home to the only large viable population of kangaroos in Brisbane.

It was because of this endangered status that Friends of Pooh Corner successfully lobbied in 2005 for the Federal government to withdraw the former Defence site from advertised sale, and instead to transfer the site to Brisbane City Council for a conservation reserve for the sum of $1.

Learn more about Pooh Corner with a flora and fauna walk led by local field naturalists and representatives of the various groups responsible for saving this precious site.

This is the first ‘public’ event to be held at Pooh Corner. Your gold coin donation is appreciated. Proudly presented by Friends of Pooh Corner.

Rocks Community Farm Open Day

See an active and productive community garden in south-west Brisbane, where people of all ages are able to grow their organic food, and share knowledge and good company.

Rocks Community Farm, at Rocks Riverside Park, is a community garden with a membership of over 100 people operating some 36 individual allotments. It was developed from scratch just over a year ago into a vibrant and productive example of local food growing.

Activities will include a garden stroll and discussion with members, inspection of hot composting in action, and a tour of the recycled water plant. Share a cuppa with the garden’s members (please BYO morning tea). Your gold coin donation is appreciated.

Festival Family Day

.. a day for everyone Officially opening Peaks to Points, Festival Family Day is a highlight of the fortnight.

As the name suggests, it’s a day for everyone, with workshops on worm farming, basket weaving and composting; face-painting; canoeing; live music by renowned acoustic guitarist John Malcolm as well as the Flibberty Brothers; a 'welcome to country' ceremony and performance by the Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal dance troupe; theatrical performances by Basil Grumble and Weed Busters; and a sustainability expo.

A very special feature of the day will be the creation of a giant sand sculpture of the catchment areas by world champion sand sculptor, Dennis Massoud, also known as the Sandman. After creating his sand sculpture, the Sandman will run 30 minute sand sculpting workshops for children aged five and over. Participants will learn how to build the letter 'a' and a free-standing arch in sand.
